30/5/99, National Stadium - Ta' Qali Valletta FC vs Birkirkara FC 2-1 (HT 1-1) | |
With a goal by Nenad Veselji two minutes from time, Valletta managed to beat Birkirkara for the second time in four days to win the Triple Crown after the Premier League Championship and the Rothmans Trophy. A depleted Birkirkara side lacking key players like Savic, Zammit, Zahra and Brincat gave Valletta a very hard time. The latter lacked Debono and Camilleri while Cini and Braunovic had to leave the pitch injured. But at the end of the day, the Citizens managed to score the odd goal in three to win the Super Cup for the fifth time. The Citizens took the lead in the 7th through Mark Galea but in the 20 th, Velibor Matanovic equalised for Birkirkara. Finally in the 88th Nenad Veselji scored the important goal for a final 2-1 win.
