- Valletta goalie Reggie Cini was arraigned in court on assault charges in an incident that took place on Sunday morning in Paceville. Cini was accused of assaulting three people and slightly injuring one of them in two incidents on Sunday at 2am and at 5am outside O'Connors Pub. He was also accused of damages amounting to around, breaching the peace and carrying a knife without a licence. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.

- Maltese assistant referee Emmanuel Zammit is one of the assistant referees that were chosen for the European Championships EURO 2000 that will be held in Belgium and Holland.

- The MFA announced that the two matches that were postponed on Sunday will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Premier League match between Gozo and Hibernians will be played on Tuesday 15th while the First Division match between Gzira U. and Hamrun S. will be played on Wednesday 16th. Both matches will be played at the Centenary Stadium.
- Following the announcement of a new date and venue for Gozo-Hibs, the MFA made it clear that there were not going to be any refunds for supporters who had already paid their way in on Sunday at the Gozo Stadium. As a sign of protest, Hibernians will buy all the tickets assigned for their supporters and deliver them for free to them as a sign of solidarity with their supporters.

The reason for which Gozo-Hibs was postponed was that the match officials were involved in a car accident and although they were not injured, it seemed that they were not in a condition to do their duties. Supporters had already filled the Gozo Stadium when it was announced that the match was going to be postponed.

- Ex-Floriana and Birkirkara coach Vlado Pejovic is the new Sliema Wanderers coach. He replaces Augustine Eguavon who had to go to Nigeria to cure himself from malaria. Lately Carmel Busuttil and Martin Gregory had assumed the positions of coaches/trainers. Lawrence Borg who has been sacked by Zurrieq is now the new Sliema assistant coach.
- Forty-seven referees will take part in UEFA's advanced course for Europe's top-class referees in Malta which starts on Sunday. The programme consists of a fitness tese, an analysis of UEFA matches in the first half of this season and discussions on topical subjects in the refereeing sector. UEFA Chief Executive Gerhard Aigner will also be present. Local referees Charles Agius, Lorry Sammut and ER Zammit were also invited. Another course, this time for new international referees, will be held between the 17th and 19th February. This course will familiarise them with the administrative tasks of the referee at UEFA matches.

- FIFA ordered Sliema Wanderers to pay the $50,000 they owe Russian club Torpedo Moscow in five monthly instalments of $10,000. Failure to do so wll lead to an immediate suspension from all local and international competitions.
- The MFA has approved the members in the new Sliema committee. Recently a new member was drafted in and a new secretary was elected. Dr Herbert Messina Ferrante is the new council member replacing Dr Ronald Cuschieri who resigned.

- FIFA has cleared way for artificial turf in
international play, even for the World Cup. FIFA president Sepp Blatter, reported by Associated Press, said FIFA has removed rules banning artificial turf and thinks that will help ease a crowded soccer calendar. Blatter said artificial
turf will free up soccer fields around the world. During the inauguaration of the Centenary Stadium last year, MFA president Dr Joe Mifsud wished that it was possible to stage Under 21 international matches there in future.

- National coach Josif Ilic selected 24 players from whom he will chose the players for the three matches in the Rothmans International Tournament. There were no surprise choices in the squad. Included are strikers Michael Mifsud (Sliema) and Michael Galea (Birkirkara). The complete squad is made up of: Barry, Busuttil, Grima, Turner, Mifsud (Sliema); Darmanin (Pietà); Muscat, Carabott, Ciantar, Mifsud (Hibs); Azzopardi, Buttigieg, Chetcuti, Debono, Theuma, Giglio, Agius, Veselji (Valletta); Okonkwo (Naxxar); Said, Holland, Mallia (Floriana); Nwoko, Galea (Birkirkara). Malta will be playing against Azerbaijan on Sunday, against Andorra on Tuesday and against Albania on Thursday. If Carmel Busuttil plays on Sunday, he will be celebrating his 100th national team cap.
- The MFA Disciplinary Commissioner suspended two players for two matches: Drasko Braunovic (Birkirkara) and Orosco Anonam (Naxxar). Four Valletta players Gilbert Agius, Stefan Giglio, Justin Tellus and Nenad Veselji together with Andrea Bonnici (Naxxar) were suspended for one match.
