- For the second time in four days, the Maltese national team was crushed with a 6-0 defeat. It took only 12 minutes for the Slovaks to open the score. A corner was headed by Dusan Tittel into the net. Two minutes later, Jaroslav Timko passed towards Shiman who anticipated Maltese goalie Reggie Cini and scored Slovakia's second goal. To make matters worse Jeffrey Chetcuti was injured and had to be substituted. Slovakia were then denied two penalties by the Greek referee. In the 36th, another goal from a set-piece: Lubos Moravcik kicked a freekick and with a powerful shot, Marjan Zeman made it 3-0. In the second half, in the 57th, there was a cross by Zeman and Jaroslav Timko was quick to head in past Cini. A quickly taken freekick by former Real Madrid player, Peter Dubovsky left helpless Cini stunned and finished in the net to make it 5-0, two minutes later. The Slovaks then wasted a couple of good scoring opportunities just before Dusan Tittel scored the Slovaks' sixth. Three tennistic results; 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, against Yugoslavia, Czech Republic and Slovakia, in the first three matches in this group. Quite a good start !!!! Twelve goals in two matches. The results speak for themselves !!!! A good morale booster for the match against Spain next December at Ta' Qali.

- A mediocre Malta side was crushed by the Czech Republic with a 6-0 defeat. Before this match coach Milorad Kosanovic said he expected his players to be confident, concentrate for the whole 90 minutes and especially to try and create chances and not only clear the ball from the penalty area. But nothing of this happened ! Liverpool's star Patrick Berger opened the score with a splendid freekick in the 14th and Pavel Nedved, 8 minutes later scored the second goal with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. With to goals down after half time, for a short while the Maltese tried to construct something and in an isolated opportunity, a back pass by a Czech defender towards goalie Pavel Snircek, the latter lost the ball and Carabott hit the upright. In the 62nd, Nicky Saliba floored Berger in the penalty area and Berger himself scored the subsequent penalty. The most beautiful goal arrived in the 76th with a freekick by Lubos Kubik, from a distance of around 30 metres. Four minutes later, Vladimir Smicer scored the Czech's fifth. Finally in the 85th, Martin Frydel scored the sixth goal to make it 6-0.
