- In a friendly match played at Ta' Qali, Rabat Ajax lose 1-7 to Red Star Belgrade. The result up to the 60th minute was 2-0 but after the Magpies substituted 7 players, they conceded 5 other goals. Adrian Mifsud scored Rabat's goal. During this match, for which some players among whom player-coach Ziya Yildiz were missing, Joe Galea suffered a shoulder injury.

- The 5 year suspension for Hamrun's assistant coach, Marco Grech, was reduced to 3 years by the MFA Executive commitee after receiving recommendations by the Appeals' Board.

- Malta lose 4-0 to Spain in Alicante. The Maltese managed to keep the net intact up to the 25th when Josep Guardiola opened the score following a Raul Gonzales pass. But in the previous six minutes, the Spaniars went very close twice, first in the 19th with an Alfonso Perez header hitting the post following a cross by Javier Manjarin and in the 21st, hitting the bar through a Fernando Hierro corner. In the 40th, Alfonso Perez doubled the score when he rocketed home a shot by Raul Gonzales. Just one minute after half time, Spain scored the third goal when Juan Antonio Pizzi managed to sent the ball through a crowded penalty area with Alfonso deviating the ball home. The referee then disallowed two Spanish goals, first when Luis Enrique Martinez pushed the goalkeeper while heading home and then Roberto Rios was in an offside position before beating Cini. In the 90th, Malta goalie Reggie Cini performed an excellent save on a Julen Guerrero shot but without holding the ball with Juan Antonio Pizzi hitting hard to make it 4-0

- Malta Under 21 lose 1-0 to Spain in Cartagena, Spain with a goal in the 69' by Roger Garcia, in the European Cup Qualifiers. Although the Maltese defence was always under pressure for the whole 90 minutes, Mario Muscat was excellent saving the result in several occasions. - In the annual contest for the Sportsman, Sportswoman and Team of the Year for 1996, football player Noel Turner (Sliema W.) finished third and Sliema Wanderers won the Team of the Year award. The winners for each category were: snooker player Tony Drago (Sportsman), swimmer Gail Rizzo (Sportswoman), Sliema Wanderers (Team) and table-tennis association president Joe Borg Cardona (Official).
