- Sliema Wanderers secretary John Zammit yesterday tendered his resignation because of "certain irregularities" in the running of the club. Mr Zammit said the way the Premier League outfit was being administered violated the club's own regulations. According to Zammit, there were individuals who were neither Sliema fans nor club members who were co-opted and given high positions in the committee.

- Balzan Youths coach Stephen Azzopardi has obtained the UEFA B-licence coaching certificate after a six-week course at Coverciano, Italy. He is now included in the register of professional coaches in Italy. This license is recognised by all UEFA member organisations. Several former Italian international players including Walter Zenga, Luca Fusi, Roberto Mancini, Daniele Massaro, Giuseppe Galderisi, Pietro Vierchowod and Stefano Desideri attended this course together with Azzopardi.

- UEFA's control and disciplinary body also awarded a 3-0 default victory to Northern Ireland on Friday, after Malta had illegally fielded a player in the 1-1 draw in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier on September 1. Malta played Mark Anthony Bonnici who still had two games of a three-game suspension to serve. UEFA have therefore amended the result of the match, while Mark Bonnici will still have to serve the remaining two matches of his suspension.
- Sliema Wanderers have written to the MFA seeking permission to take the
legal action against referee Joe Attard following his controversial control of the game between Sliema and Hamrun last Tuesday. Attard left unpunished a very rough tackle by Hamrun's Alan Mifsud on Djebril Sylla which will leave him out of the game for more than two months. Sliema are also asking the association to take disciplinary action against the referee.

- Three Premier League players were banned by the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner. Ferdinand Onovo of Naxxar was suspended for 5 matches, four of which due to the agressive behaviour towards the referee in Sunday's game against Valletta. Kamil Dvorak (Valletta) and Jude Madu (Naxxar) were suspended for one match after being sent off in the same game. Dvorak will miss his team's match against Rabat while Madu will miss the game against Floriana.

- Hibs midfielder Ndubisi Chukunyere and Valletta defender Darren Debono were both suspended for two matches by the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner. Another two Hibs players, Mario Muscat and Roger Walker were suspended for one game and will therefore miss next Tuesday's game against Rabat.

- Malta made use of an ineligible player in the Under 21 game against Northern Ireland last Friday in Belfast. Mark Anthony Bonnici was banned for game after being sent off but then this suspension was increased to three matches by UEFA. However it seems that no one was aware that Bonnici was suspended. The Irish had not filed a protest withing the 24 hours but still the UEFA Control & Discipline Committee will be investigating the matter.

- Birkirkara FC and Valletta FC were heavily fined by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body which met on Monday 4th September. Birkirkara were fined 15,000 Swiss Franks for improper conduct of a player/official and another 13,000 Swiss Franks for improper conduct of the team in the Champions League First Qualifying Round game against KR Reykjavik in Iceland on the 19th July for a total of CHF 28,000 (Lm 7,300). On the other hand, Valletta were fined 6,000 Swiss Franks (Lm 1,600) for improper conduct of the supporters in the game Valletta vs Rijeka on the 24th August at Ta' Qali from the UEFA Cup Qualifying Round.
- Division 2 & 3 Knock-Out Fgura U. vs Gharghur 0-1, Birzebbuga SP vs Gudja U. 1-1. For the first time, a female referee controlled a senior MFA competition. Esther Farrugia, daughter of MFA assistant referee Ronnie Farrugia, controlled the game between Fgura and Gharghur from the Second & Third Division Knock-Out.
